Empowering Youth Through Creativity and Learning

At Learning Through A Lens, students don’t just take photography or storytelling classes, they embark on a transformative creative experience led by internationally exhibited teaching artist Stephan Twist, who is available to bring these project-based workshops directly to schools, homeschool groups, or youth programs. From capturing powerful images to producing mini-documentaries, each student develops the skills, vision, and confidence to tell meaningful stories through art.

A cross-disciplinary program that combines photography and creative writing, helping young people explore how they see the world, and themselves. Designed for students aged 10–18, the program nurtures emotional insight, critical thinking, and personal voice through hands-on, project-based learning.

Rather than focusing solely on technical mastery or traditional art training, these classes use creative expression as a tool for self-discovery. Students work on visual and written projects that explore essential human themes such as communication, emotional reflection, relationship-building, and self-awareness. Along the way, they develop important academic and life skills, including writing, analysis, observation, and thoughtful communication.

Courses are tailored to each age group:

  • Ages 10–12: Students begin with engaging, exploratory courses such as The Art of Photography: A Hands-On Creative Journey into Visual Storytelling.

  • Ages 13–15: Students deepen their critical thinking and photographic technique in Visual Literacy Through Photography.

  • Ages 16–18: Older students tackle advanced projects in Self-Discovery Through Photography & Creative Writing.

By blending storytelling with visual thinking, Learning Through A Lens empowers students to build confidence, recognize their own perspectives, and better understand others. It is a space for learning that is both expressive and reflective, helping young people grow into more empathetic, self-aware, and engaged thinkers.
