Learning Through A Lens Comes to West Africa
I’m thrilled to share that in January 2026, Learning Through A Lens will be expanding to Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, and Côte d'Ivoire,. This is an exciting step in our mission to give young people everywhere the tools to tell their own stories, build confidence, and develop critical thinking through photography and creative writing.
The idea for this expansion began when I met Lidwine Meffo, a renowned international philanthropist, speaker, author, and entrepreneur. From our very first conversation, we found common ground, especially around climate change and its impacts in West Africa. Ghana, for example, is already experiencing unpredictable rainfall, rising sea levels, flooding, and droughts that threaten the economy, livelihoods, and communities, particularly those dependent on agriculture or living along the coast.
Lidwine and I realized that beyond responding to immediate challenges, young people need the space to think critically, ask questions, and explore creative solutions. That’s exactly what Learning Through A Lens provides. Our program combines photography, storytelling, and self-reflection to help students strengthen emotional intelligence, develop real-world skills, and build the courage to share their ideas with the world.
Expanding into West Africa is not just about teaching photography. It’s about creating opportunities for cultural exchange, empowering youth to see their own potential, and helping them engage with the issues that matter most in their communities.
I can’t wait to share more stories, student work, and behind-the-scenes moments as this new chapter unfolds. Thank you for following along and supporting our journey—there’s so much to come, and I’m honored to have you with us.
Warmly,
Stephan Twist
